Anyone have a Seaclear Acrylic tank? Do you like it?

I'm terrified of getting a leak on my wood floors, so I've been told that an acrylic tank would be better.

General comments? :)

Hi :) I've never had a tank crack or leak on me I think as long as you stick to quality brands and get a new rather than second hand tank I cant see you having an issue with a glass tank.

Equally there is nothing wrong with acrylic, the only issue I've ever heard of was around malfunctioning heaters damaging the acrylic and scratches sometimes show up more in acrylic than glass.

I hope so. Although I haven't kept fish in a few years, I've had four or five tanks over my life, and never had problems. However, retirement looms, and there will be no budget for major floor renovations should something happen. :( A decade ago, this wouldn't have concerned me much.

Ah I see think it’s a case of going for a good quality brand now - some come with guarantees on silicone and glass now so would presumably cover any damage caused if they did fail but some of the good brands like fluval or oase are super reliable now.

I've had many glass and acrylic tanks over the last 20+ years. From normal glass to starfire, to rounded acrylic tank's, rimless acrylic. But if you do go with acrylic i would make sure the acrylic is thick enough to not bow to much. I've seen some over the years that bowed ALOT which scarred me. Advantages of acrylic imo are weight, durability(if built well) and they are better visually when taking pics vs standard glass. Cons is they can bow if built poorly, generally more expense and the big one - they scratch very easy vs glass. If you go acrylic a magic eraser will be your best friend when cleaning the acrylic on the inside.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I think I've decided to go with glass. My local Petsmart has Tetra tanks and a lfs has Seapora. I think the glass is thicker on the Seapora, but I want to examine the silicone workmanship. :)

I looked at the seapora tanks, they look like neat little tanks and have different dimensions which is pretty cool.
