I've really only have done freshwater tanks my whole life but thanks to a friend I am starting to think of doing a small reef tank. I really just need to get books right now as I need to do alot of info. I was thinking about getting a small 8 gal bio cube to start with and at least have a pair of small clowns. Now are bio-cubes pretty good or I've heard other things?, and of course its gonna take me a few months to get the money and info but just wanted to know about peoples experiance with bio-cubes.

They're good tanks, but an 8g is a little small for a pair of clownfish IMO. If I may suggest poking around the Nano section of the forums here as any tank below 30g is a Nano :). You'll find more direct info there and with the stickies there

do you mean any tank below 30 gallon is a nano?

below 8 qualifies it as a pico in my book.

Lol, 8... 30, what's the difference right . Good catch Musho, fixed my error :D

Biocubes can be a good choice for a starter as they come ready made for a beggining reefer, but I would suggest buying atleast a 30G (what I really started with after only a couple weeks with a 10G) as this will give you plenty of margin for error when you begin, plus gives you room for you rpair of clowns..

Plus, when you peice everything together urself, you can pick and choose what you think you want to be a little more robust or powerful and other pieces are not as critical as the manufacturers of the biocube may feel.

either way, salty tanks are a great addition to your life and home :good:

If I had to buy another biocube I would definitely buy the 29 because the nice size. You can easily put a pair of clowns in there. I have a 14 gallon biocube with a pair of clowns but the size of my dresser limited me from going with the 29. It would have been hanging off haha not good. But I'm happy with my 14 gallon no problems so far. Just upgrade the pump or add another powerhead.
