Thinking About Flounders...

What size would you need to house 4-5 adults with some other fish in the tank also (only maybe 5ish)???
where can you get them from in the UK?
i dont think any of my LFS' stock them or will be able to get them in either...

Haha, sounds like a tank with what will seem like absolutely nothing in it. Soles/Flatfish are a neat but I have been finding that they are almost completely buried in the sand almost 90% of the time. This makes it fun to try to find it every time you look in the tank. If you want a fish that nobody will believe is there then these guys are perfect.

I found that most of the LFSs in So Cal, USA don't carry them either. I had to order mine from Florida which is all the way on the other side of my country. It took 2 days but it arrived in excellent shape, they seem to ship pretty well. I'd only worry about low oxygen levels. Maybe ordering will be an option for you.

Well, they do become much more day-active as they mature. That said, they do hide a lot. There's no reason _not_ to keep them with tankmates, just make sure they won't compete for food. Surface dwelling fish are fine, benthic catfish, spiny eels, loaches, etc., not so good.

A good combo would be soles and halfbeaks (or some other unusual livebearer). The halfbeaks don't take food from the substrate, and any fry produced will stay at the top, totally ignored by the sole.

Cheers,

Neale
