the tank is 20 gal and planted with 6 male guppies and about 20+ cherry shrimp, will these be ok together with a shoal of 6-8 glass cats without overstocking?

it wont be over stocked but you cvan wave by to the shrimps and the guppies as glass catfish, like most catfish are preditory and will make a nice meal out of the other tank mates.

as long as the guppies and shrimp cant fit in the cats mouth they should be ok. glass cats are peaceful fish that usually stick to their own. theyll occaisionally get curious and get up close to others and 'taste' them with their barbels but thats about it. a shoal of 6-8 sounds perfect as they like groups of at least six. also provide some current (powerhead not necessary but helpful, HOB filter with good flow is fine), they like flow and are great to watch as they sort of hover in the current. i always keep a shoal of'm in one of my tanks, i love'm :)

cheers for the info i managed to get 6 a little earlier from a local fish shop and they are only babies no bigger than my guppies so they will be ok for now then will be new aditions to my new 50gal after its matured i think

when adding other fish ensure you dont add anything to boisterious or anything that whizzes round the tank insanely, as this will spook the glass cats, they are very timid fish and do tend to hide a lot, floating plants and a lot of hiding places with encourage them to come out into the open.

its only guppies and that will be that for this tank at the moment as it all seems quite happy and the glass cats were straight to the top for food this morning so it seems all good so far and they have claimed a corner already which is under my filter next to a log
