I have a small 5.5gl heavily planted tank, and I am thinking about Betta's.
I would really like to keep a male/female pair, but a lone male would be nice too.

The tank is currently home to 12 CPD's. Would Betta's hassle these little guys?

With a regular Betta splendens you cannot keep males and females together, but there's other Betta species where you can, I'm not sure what they look like though.

I have kept Falx in the past, I wouldn't put them in less than 15 Gal due to there size. A single male would be your best bet

I wouldn't add anything more to the tank fish wise - shrimp perhaps?

Had a pair of betta in my beginners tank. It is well known that to males can not be kept togheter.
As for male and female my experience does not advise you to do it. My male kept harrassing the female 24 hours a day.
She spent all her time hidden as soon as she put her head out the male would just attack her.
Besides i'm more familiar with litres but if my conversion calculator is not wrong 5,5 gallons is a bit small for a one betta rather more two.

Thanks all!
I was just curious for some other stock for a small tank, and I have heard of Bettas being kept in tanks as small as 1 gallon.

Going to stick with the CPD species tank, and perhaps attempt a breeding in my 20gl.

Male bettas cannot be put together in the same tank. So fish shops do that to keep them a part, also if i remember the bettas have the labyrint wich allows them to breathe air.
But is far from the optimal conditions for this fish.

5.5 gallons is too small for a pair (minimum for a pair would be 20 gallons for a male and female or sorority), but is perfect for one male betta. A female is also an option.
