Alright here's my task. I just bought the prism pro deluxe protein skimmer. I have a 125 gal tenecor. The whole thing is encolsed and there is no where to hang this off the tank. So I have to build a sump to run the protein skimmer. I had a vision of a 15 gallon tank with the protein skimmer hanging off this. Then just run two rio pumps -one to pump the from the tank into the 15gal fish tank one to pump it back into the tank. Does this make any sence? Is there a easier way? Please your input :-(

This is what I would do If you have the space under the tank go to you local lowes, or home depot. and get a 55gal tub(plastic) and hang it on the back of that then run two pumps from that and that would also provide the tank with extra filtering

does it really have to be that big? And if it's under the tank how would that provide more lighting?

Oh I am sooo sorry I ment to say more filtration. :*) That is if you ad some carbon bags or something near where the water will drain into it.

its not that nessesaryt to be huge, but if you want to be able to have more bioload and wut not why not go with like 30 gallon or somthing

ok before you do this, you are going to get a wet floor if you plan to use 2 pumps.

Here is why. the ammount of energy required to pump from the tank down to the sump is minimal. there is very little head presure, maybe 2 feet. On the other hand if you are pushing water up to teh tank from the sump you will have a harder time. the head pressure will most likely be atleast 4 feet.

So, more water will go down than comes back up. Result : Wet Floor. The only reasonable way to fill a sump is with an overflow. That way the only water that comes down is forced out by the water being pumped up. no chance for a wet floor with the right setup.
