Hey everyone,

ive got a 5gal tank that ive bought espically for a crowntail i have on order! he's gorgeous!!

But he is only held for the moment, so before i buy is there anything major i should know?

I have done research but you guys are so convenient and educated!!

so id love to show him off when i get him. any tips?

I know the basic's and im sure that there is a lot to learn. although i do know about the benefits of almond leaf! ive read over the articles by wuv but would just like reasuring. what temp. water? how often for changes? filtering or just pump? and what about lighting?

ive found that even though you can research its not always right, experience beats text book answers anytime.

can you tell i dont want to take any chances!! :)

well in my tank its a 6gallon tank heated at 28c ungravel filter with a very slight current.......as most bettas dont like currents..........but i have a planket betta in my community tank who spends all day playing in the current..he loves it.........i do a 3rd of tank water change every week.........for the 1st 2weeks my betta<pictured>didnt eat a thing,,,now wont stop eating.............so good luck n enjoy

Honestly..... I would avoid underground filters. Unless you have it in a bigger tank with powerheads to push the junk out.... all it is going to do is create a bed of crap under the substrate. Which is fine if you don't mind ph swings, nitrate spikes, and ammonia pockets.

6G for 1 betta.... if you want you can treat it like a massive jar. If you want to put a filter in it... opt for one that is in the tank instead of hanging on the back. That is just because the intank filters have a lot less current.

Heater is good. They like temp range to be in the high 70's. Anything between 72-84 is fine.

They like plants. Places to check out.... sleep on....

Also get water conditioners. Aquarisol too while you are at it. Not many people realize there is velvet, hexamita and various other stuff in our tap water. Most adults are fine and as long as they are not overly stressed or immune system compromised (but that is why fry get nailed seemingly out of nowhere.)

Check out food variety. By that I do not mean 5 different kinds of pellets. Daphnia, bloodworms, shrimp (mysis or adult brine shrimp).... etc etc.

CT will get bent rays with ph fluctuations and bad water quality. Giving the betta some sunlight treatments will straighten the rays. Just don't forget to fix the cause of the bent rays.
