i noticed this thin sort of layer of what must be some kind of oil, floating on the top of my tank, i think it came from some fry food that i bought especially for my new arrivals but thats besides the point, how can i get rid of this layer of grease/oil that is floating ontop.

i've tried skimming over the top with a very fine cloth net, didnt work.
tried dipping a container just under the waterline so skim the oil off by letting it flow into the container, worked to a point, managed to get some off but there is still a layer there which just wont go.

any idea's greatly appreciated!

It's from the food, don't worry about it, the filtration will eventually break it up, sometimes I put the food in a small container with the water then pour it in the tank, saves it floating on the top an causing this to happen, hope this helps :good:

do a small water change

i used to clear it up but now leave it

I agreed with everyone else, it's probabl the food. Noticed thesame film in my axolotl tank recently.I sometimes remove it with clean kitchen tissue paper Other than that, water change is the best sollution
