nah just means that it is winter, air is cold and water is hot so it evaporates quickly

Put a coverglass on the top of the tank to reduce evaporation and heat loss. Use 4, 5, or 6mm thick coverglass so it is less likely to chip or crack.

You can insulate the base, back and sides of the tank with 1 inch thick polystyrene foam sheets. Just tape them on the outside of the glass.

Just do a big water change and gravel clean the substrate every day for a week. It should deal with the worms. Then go back to once a week water changes and gravel cleans.
