I am trying to set up a 30 gallon long tank as a sump for a 55 gallon mbuna setup. I wanted to do so for obvious reasons more water volume, reffuge for hassled fish, and more filtration. I wanted to add some mosses to help combat the abundance that likes to grow on my glass. I was wondering what would I need for the water return? A powerhead of some sort? a pond pump? Also would I need to put cansiter media in it or would the gravel and moss be enough to keep the benificial bacteria alive?

Thanks.

The growth in your tank is due to an imbalance in lights/nutrients.

You will want to put some filter media in the sump as well as the moss.

If you really wat to help combat the algae, try an algae turf scrubber. There is a great thread on them in the SW section at the moment.

Yeah but I wanted something to cut down on the algea scrubbing. I already do that. Once a week is fine but I wish there was another way. The sump isn't in action yet, I still need an idea about the pump to use for the return.

no one knows? Or does this forum not like puns?
There is nothing punny about bad puns. :-

I like your 80's Naked Eyes/equipment combo.

Look up the algae turf scrubber :p. It's not what you think.

For the pump you would be looking for this kind of thing: http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/fish/filters...ers/pumps/13228.
