So I was the local Petco and thought "You know what, I really want a male betta". It probably wasn't a good idea to get bettas from Petco in the first place, but I went ahead with it. For as long as I've remembered, this location always had only two prices for their male bettas, "Male betta - $3.99" and "Crowntail betta - $6.99". I ended up picking a halfmoon, assuming it would fall under the $3.99 category, but it apparently triggers a secret pricetag that was nowhere to be seen - $12.99. I really thought about telling the cashier "Um, nevermind, I don't want it anymore", but decided to cough up the extra $10 - you know, because my head kept telling me "That would be kinda like telling an orphan you're adopting him, and then saying nevermind at the last moment". My head's weird like that.

Anyways, here's the betta that ended up costing me $14.

I'm thinking of naming him Sunburst, but he flared at me when I told him that. I'll take suggestions.

He's really pretty. Maybe he was telling you he likes the name, not hates it. And I hate when they advertise like that. 3.99 in big print and right under it, it says "starting from 3.99-12.99" >(

wow he is a great colour, such a nice bright yellow. $14 is really cheap over here in the UK, i have just paid £15 for a HM so about $30 lol. Any way he is a beauty, hope you have fun with him

He's beautiful! Definitely worth $14.

I don't know about all Petcos, but at my local one the bettas always look healthy and happy.

The Petco here isn't all too bad, but their bettas are often in very poor condition, being kept in those tiny plastic bowls and all. Sunburst (yep, that's what I named him, he's gonna have to deal with it) didn't look too good either actually, but now that he's swimming about with the fins out, it really erases the whole "Gosh I can't believe I spent that much money on a betta" regret.

I hate it when secret prices seem to pop up from nowhere. That being said, I'd pay $14 for that betta, he's quite beautiful. I got my betta from Petco as well, his coloration caught my eye .

God Bless,
Joshua

Holy smokes! I wish I could find a beautiful halfmoon like that for only $14!!! Where are you at? Maybe I should check and see if my petcos are selling halfmoons now!

Once, I went to Petco and saw full black CT, along with other CTs and HMs. Knowing the color rarity makes the difference, I turned my back on that black CT for a minute as I talked with my wife and daughter. Then I check it out again, POOF! It was gone! I was confused and looked around and spotted other customer got it after paid for it. Arrrrrrrgggghhh! Only if I got my hands on it first!..... At least, he is happy to go with new owner...

We don't have a petco here so all I'm stuck with are petsmart and superpets.
I saw a delta at petsmart ONCE a long time ago and have never seen anything other that CT and VT since :(
I wish they would get different tail types even though I wouldn't be able to get any :p hehe

Anywho!
I think you got a great deal! He is so gorgeous!

:good: Very nice looking fish and not bad for $14. My very first betta was from PetSmart, similar to Petco, and he lived with me for 3 years -- longer than any other betta, including those from breeders.
