Wow... I actually want a tank big enough to do an English Biotope to include a shopping trolly that would just look so cool!!
I don't know what fish we have locally that stay small though, i know few do stay small which is a shame as I have several areas on the thames where I could easily collect a few plants though they are likely invasive species knowing my luck lol.
Maybe a native pond + trolley is more realisitic!
Would love a British Marine Biotope though!!
That aside, I think 55g is too small for malawis IMO, I know people do it but mostly... they just regret it a year or two down the line when the fish get too big/breed. I have seen some pretty big yellow labs out there...
That said... I'd be very tempted to do a species only malawi tank with something like a few White Labs... that way, any fry would be pure and therefore actually worth something! And it could be made to look amazing! I'd love some blue/grey (maybe granite) and slate/dark rocks to make archways right down the tank that would allow fish to zigzag in and out. All rocks stood on eggcrate buried under the substrate to be safe... and then white labs... would look stunning!
