Just thought i'd share with you the new 4ft tanks, have gone from 125 - 240 litres,
it was a right old state, but got it cheap so was happy to put in the effort to get it sorted.

that is mould, its where an internal filter (seen in pic one) was siliconed to the glass. this tank had abut 20 chilids, 1 catfish and a pleco in it! and was only 3/4 full!

all sorted, couple of new tubes and some more wood and its up and running, used all my old water, filter sand and plants in the change over, fish love it!
still way understocked but really just gonna see how things progress with the fry that are in there too!

oh is that a juwel aquarium? looks just like mine, gunk behind the internal filter is a terrible problem!

yes its a Juwel, internal has been junked as it took up way too much space. Currently running 2 internals at present until/if i go external.

Hi Spannaz :)

That's a very nice looking tank you have there now.

It does look like you had to do a lot of work to clean it up, but it was well worth it. :D

hi back!! :good:
yes it was a lot of hard work, the tank was full when we arrived to collect it, so we had to rescue the fish that were in it!!!!! Then empty it and get it all in the car and home. Once there panic set in as there was no way i could get the tank back up and running for the fish. As luck would have it, young lad up the road has a huge tank with only 5 fish in it. He had been saving for the tank, but has been out of work so could not afford to put any more in it!!!! Result in the fact he homed them all. meaning they went from a mucky unfiltered home to a nice clean warm home!!!
It is nice to sit back and look at it now, but there were times when i thought " why oh why did i not just go buy a new one!" lol but where is the fun in that.
Just need to sell my old tank, have tried to keep it but wife not giving in! lol

Hi Spannaz :)

What a great story. Thanks for sharing it with us. What kind of fish are enjoying the luxury of your new big tank now? Do you have any plans for future additions?

BTW, did you ask the fellow who rehomed those fish if he knows to look for a possible ammonia spike while his beneficial bacteria reproduces enough to be able to accommodate them all? It's possible he might not be aware of this.

Yeah he knows more about fish than i do, and has taken that into consideration, transferred some to his spare 3ft tank then will slowly increase them.
I have only plans for lots of small fish, the idea is to make the tank of constant interest for the kids, they love sitting in front and watching a whole different world going on in front of them, and being able to get invloved. Neon Tetra is on the top of the list, Dan our little 5 year old has saved all his pocket money so he could buy some bless him, alas local fish shop was out of stock due to xmas so he said he'll happily wait bless

Hi Spannaz :)

Have you given any thought to adding a small school or corydoras? They would do well in there with the sand bottom and lots of open space.

Corys are quite active and really act like a school since they stick close and frequently play together. I'm sure they would delight your children.

These are C. aeneus (orange lazer) but it is typical of the way most corys play:

you read my mind. I have 2 Pepperred Cory's from ym original tank, these were the reason for changing to sand from gravel. Have seen that the LFS has a nice selection of these and have my eye on some Zebra cory's. They are albeit it smaller than my current ones but am sure they get on great and be real entertainment for the kids!
I am also like the Tiger Barb look a likes they have, half the size and not a fin nipper so goo with the male guppies i have. just need to think about something vibrant in colour now

Looks good it cleaned up well. I like the stand. nothing wrong with being under-stocked.

good job
