The new guy

Well, it was kind of a fluke.
I decided that it was time to change out his water on Friday because of all the uneaten pellets in his tank.
When I scooped him up into the cup while I switched out his water, he turned a really pale peach color - basically lost all his coloration. I looked into the tank to see a huge blood spot under his eye, like he had a monstrous black eye. I finished up his tank change (he also had 2 very dark stress lines down each of his sides, horizontally) and got him back into the tank. He almost immediately turned back to his normal color, but I got on the forum and posted about the blood spot. There were several people that offered suggestions about what it could be - and then Wilder posted a long description of what happens when a fish has the viral septicemia stuff - it was things like swimming in a spiral, darting, lethargic, blood spots under the skin - basically everything that Jasper had. So that's how I figured out what he has.

IT seemed like after that water change on Friday, things really started to turn around for him. I'm now treating him with Tetracycline after the whole round of Maracyn Two. Hopefully he'll make a good recovery! :)

Now it's 6 days since I got him, and he's really starting to look better. He doesn't swim in circles anymore- no darting around the tank, his fins aren't clamped, his color is back and he's eating. And he's not really resting as much as before. yay! I think he does have a long way to go, but the progress is coming - slowly!

Isn't it swell? I was very worried about this little guy.
He's not "technically" out of the woods yet, but he's come a LONG way.
Here's photos of his progression:
First day - fresh off the WalMart shelf:

Right after I released him - he was literally sinking to the bottom of the tank to just sit as I snapped this photo:

The poor little guy laying on the bottom of the tank (think this one was taken on Wednesday):

AND.... how he is now, after 3fsh WONDERFULLY sent me some plants to give him a place to rest his weary little soul on:

(He was in full stride swim in this last photo).

I'm so happy he's feeling better!

:hyper:

My boys just flared at each other! BOTH of them.
I didn't bother putting the protective piece of paper between the 2 tanks because neither of them have been feeling very good lately, and didn't even notice each other because neither of them swims around much lately, but suddenly they discovered each other. It was Jasper's first EVER flare and Amos' first in a long time. Maybe he's starting to feel better already.

yay!
