I was going to post in here, to ask if you'd dug your camera out yet lol. It was really cool to watch the ricordea do that. It was short lived though. It spat it out about an hour later lol. I think lobster eggs would be a great thing to try though, as they are smaller and a natural food source. I have got some decapsulated brine shrimp eggs but, its very hard to tell if they are making it to the ricordea when using the syringe.

I'd forgotten all about the camel shrimp that lives in the rear section of my tank. I had to put it in there to stop it eating the corals lol. I will find it a new home eventually. Its a bit reclusive but, I managed to grab a shot of it before it disappeared behind one of the circulation pumps again.

Check out the serrated appendage. Not sure if that's for fighting.... or sawing through my bloody xenias

Hi BigC,

The camera I bought in mint condition from Ebay. It cost £160 if I remember rightly, which was about half what you'd pay for a new DSLR body. Its the earliest of the Olympus Evolt series that has live view and built in image stabilization. Anything below an E-510 doesn't have the live view feature, apart from the E-3 which is the top of the line and costs a hell of a lot more than mine lol.

The lens is 20 years old and is fitted to the E-510 with an AD2 to Olympus 4/3 adapter. Its regarded as a "legendary lens" in terms of its sharpness/contrast/bokeh and it still holds its own against today's macros, which is why I picked one up. It generally sells on eBay for anywhere between £60-£90 depending upon condition. When you compare that to the digital macros which retail for £400, its a bargain. It takes photos at 1:2 ratio but with the extention tube it takes it to 1:1 life size. Due to the sensor size and crop factor on the E-510 any picture taken is twice the size of the 35mm standard, so even without the extention tube, I'm still taking pictures at 1:1 ratio anyway. With the extention tube I'm actually taking 2:1 macro shots! Its also a very fast lens with a maximum aperture of 2.5F, definitely not to shabby for a 90mm lens!

*Edit* The best macro lens for my make of camera is the Zuiko ED 50mm F2 Macro, which is about £400 and takes 1:2 zoom shots. There is a Zuiko ED 35mm Macro, which is about half the price but takes 1:1 shots. Its probably less expensive because the max aperture is 3.5F and from what I've read isn't quite as impressive optically as the 50mm.

Tamron make a digital version of the SP90, unfortunately I think its only for Nikon and Sony mounts.

Ive got an E-410, which i believe is one model below yours, and i have full live view....

Hi Adam,

I stand corrected then. If memory serves it was something I read on a review of the E series. Perhaps the lack of LV was referring to another model but, thanks for pointing it out. I'm trying to think what the differences are between the 410 and 510 now. I remember it had something to do with the sensor. Mechanical Image Stabilization?

I use a Nikon D40x with 18-65mm lens. Cost about $500 with lens

Something to note is that if you buy this model, it does not have internal autofocusing and requires you to buy Nikkor AF lenses that have the autofocus motors in the lens.

That said, I manually focus for macro shots. I do not use a macro lens, just aperture priority a tripod and 10 second delay.

Here is one of my favorite shots taken.

Very nice shot JT. What are those? Button polyps?

Some fantastic piccies here! :D

I have a bridge camera and am hoping for a nice dslr soon enough, but here are a few of the sort of macros I manage with my current fuji finepix S9600...not macro by many standards but they please me  most were taken through a bow fronted tank which I struggled with for focussing

Can't wait until I get a good dslr and a nice macro lens!

Nice pictures Jenny, especially through a bowfronted tank!

I'd put some flake food in the tank and a bit that had previously been wet and hardened, fell onto one of the mushrooms and began to soften up. About 3 minutes later the discoma had managed to work the flake food into its mouth and was in the process of consuming it. I managed to grab a few pictures before it disappeared.
