after losing several fish a while back ive only one zebra left in one of our tanks. ive never gotten other zebras to replace the lost. The lonely zebra seems very content with other species in his little environment.so it seems some schoolers are really not schoolers at all. This came as a surprise to us. :byebye:

Schooling fish are schooling fish. By having a solitary member, you are stressing it. That said, schooling is an anti-predator behaviour that in small tanks with little or no threat, is not seen that often. So yes, you are stressing it, but probably not terminally.

been there :)
I agree in a community tank probably not a big deal.

I keep rainbows with my cichlids... If for some reason (knock on wood) I were to loose some... I think a lone one wouldn't be as happy as your little fella :)

I have a lone leopard danio in my community tank. He seems very content after killing  the other two danios. He's even taken to chasing some goldskirt tetras around. :D Funny considering he's about half to a quarter of their size.
