The great debate Sand or gravel

I only put sand in a tank the other day, it's fantastic so far, except the fact that you need to spend HOURS cleaning the bloody stuff before putting it in, I've only put half the sand in as yet, can't be stuffed doing the other half at the moment, always next week lol

I only spent 2 hours, maybe 3 washing the sand for all my tanks and that's nearly 50 pounds worth.

It depends. I like sand in cycled aquariums, because gravel traps debris. But, for accomodations requiring 100% water changes, I prefer a thin layer of gravel. Our Betta is transferred to a clean bowl weekly. It's easier to clean the dirty bowl by removing gravel than it would be to remove sand.
