I am receiving a early Xmas present of a fluval 307. Replacing my fluval 207, I had a chat over the phone with the assistant as I wanted to know if the white and blue sponges that go down the side of the canister are the same size as I want to use my 207 media. He said they are taller, but if I'm using sponges and ceramics from my trays, this should be enough, and there should be no spike, I dont wish to cut these sponges but I prefer to keep them whole in the 207 filter, he also told me to feed lightly for a fortnight to help the filter get established, do you think this will be okay, with using the old tray sponges and ceramics and it should not spike.

I would expect it to be ok. Feed lightly in the beginning as he suggests.
If you are not comfortable use on of the old pre-sponges for a couple of weeks with one new and then swap the new one in. Not really neccessary but its an option ( so the sponge will be shorter and water will flow around the edges)

Thanks for that, I think I may just use the new slide down sponges , I have old sponges and one tray of ceramics I will use in the new filter, I should be able to get them in along with new media, as it has more capacity than the 204, and hopefully that will be okay.
