I had never bought an eheim anything but always hated having to use a siphon to do gravel cleanings so I decided to order the sludge extractor. I thought it would be a joke and wouldnt work that great but it has proved me wrong!!!

If you hate cleaning gravel with a primitave siphon and want an easier way that takes 1/4 of the time a siphon does then this thing is priceless beyond all means. It is submersible, is efficient, easy to use and easy to clean. Only thing is for me in states anyways it cost 70$ from petsmart and I naturally had to order it from them seeing as all they sell at their stores are their own siphons. It took 2 weeks but finally it came!

The best part is it doesnt cloud water if used correctly and takes only 3-4min to vac whole tank! You Europeons are lucky to have such a devout company that makes such nice products, the states have some catching up to do in the fish keeping hobby products! This forum has proved priceless in my fish keeping skills due mostly to you UK people that are so dedicated to your fish! It's a good thing too because I never knew or woulda known Eheim even existed unless it was for this place! :good:

Glad you think it was worth getting :)

I also have one of these but I have a big warning for you:

I have sand in one of my tanks and it has completely f***ed it all up!!

I have sand and had no problems. They are very easy to completely dismantle and flush out any sand that gets up into the impeller, have you tried that?

Ive got a 30" deep tank, will it be long enough to work in that? or can it work completely under water?

Mine is 27" and yes it can be used fully submerged. (I should get commission from eheim for this :))
