i was reading a brackihs aquaria book lat night and it was sayng that gsps will eat and eat and eat, and if you keep feeding them, after they ate they will just get pushed around by the current as they sit on the substrate, too fat to move- slightly cruel i would imagine, but a funny thing to watch.

plus i was looking at a website that was saying gsps are used for tests because they have the same number of chromosomes as humans, but way smaller genomes- i think thats wat it said anyways, they are also used for bate -_-

im going to get 1 gsp and house him in a 33gallon fluval roma 125- cant wait!

thanks

Aw the housing arrangement sounds great ADAndrews!

YEah have read that around too with GSPs, poor little guys :(

The whole food thing, only had two types of puffs and yep they would do if let them. Also have read of cases where they have ripped or exploded from absolute over eating! Others have well behaved puffs that stop when full,,,I wish I had some like that!

One of my F8s would eat for medals if he was allowed! He turns into a right porker if I am not careful. they have 'lean' days where I go for a little while without feeding to keep them trim :D

cant wait til i get my gsp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i need £200 for the tank
£100 for filter and heater
£60 for decor
£20 for cleaning equipment
£10 for the puffer

thats £390, gotta get working i spose.

edit: OH, I forgot, need

salt
hydrometer

no idea how much that'll cost, which salt do you use jenny, i have heard instant ocean is good, also do you use a swing arm hydrometer or the glass one?

thanks

good luck with the gsp lilacamy

I use D-D H2Ocean Pro salt AD and a refractometer :D You can't play at being a pirate with a swing arm or glass hydrometer now , can you?

ok, i have heard that the glass ones are as accurate if they are used correctly
????

what do you have to do to calibrate the refractometer?

Hi, I use Tropic Marin salt....£16.99 for 4kg [also recommended by Jenny] and a plastic swing arm Instant Ocean hydrometer, both work really well for brackish and my F8's are doing brilliantly, even though I'm a complete newbie to brackish.

thanks Lisa, i thought hydrometers were good for brackish, as the fish can take swings in salinity?

not sure on the calibration I will find out soon when my refractometer arrives! LOL think it involves RO water...

I use a refractometer because I have marine tanks and need accuracy a hydrometer or swing arm wouldn't give. I used a glass hydrometer prior to getting one.

You calibrate a refractometer with ro water.

Yay! Well think it arrived this morning but had to dash out, will see if can get some RO water this weekend though might not be able to, keep you guys updated (and help me!)
