this is D.K. our springer, she's a crazy dog. the kids named her after some person called drift king from one of the fast and furious films and she goes completely sidewards when turning a corner as she runs so fast.

I nominate D.K for POTM... Anyone Second? :)

i'll second that one

I really want an english springer would you recomend one, Ive been doing some reading on them and speaking to owners about them.

It would get load sof exercise and 4 walks a day one massive one and three smaller ones as I live within a couple of hundred yards of two good parks however I work a mile away 9-5 and the dog would be on its own from 9 till 12 ish when I d come back for dinner and walk it and then 1ish to 5 ish?

Gorgeous rottie, looks like a big softie.
Simonas, Springers are high maintenance, they're full of energy & do everything at 100 mph
I wouldn't recommend one if you have to leave it home alone for several hours.
There are exceptions to every breed of course, so if you do decide to get one, get one from a Show breeder, not a working one, as working bred ones seem to be more hyper

cheers Cazgar, thats my concern with em really wonderful dog I know a couple of people in work have them and leave them but I'd hate to get one and it not be happy so Ive just been asking as many people as I can :good:

They are great dogs, & you could be lucky & get a calm one, but all the ones I've known have been mad!
I used to show & work gundogs, (Gsp's) so have seen plenty of Springers.
You also have to consider the grooming, their coat does need stripping out at least twice a year & regular grooming in between.
Sorry to hijack the thread.
Maybe start a new one to get other people's experiences with springers

Brilliant Micko!! :D

D.K. is a beauty, but Ebony is a total stunner! :)

Simonas, considered Cockers or Sussex?

Thanks everyone.

Will put D.K in for POTM. Feel honoured.

Springers are great dogs, very loyal and trusting. The downside is that they're crazy. You cannot walk them on a lead, they walk you. D.K's mother and father were both gun dogs so if she catches sight of a bird then she's off after it. Google "lough neagh" she swam half way across that one day after a bird, there was boats out trying to rescue her and all. I knew she would come back but in her own time, she was swimming for over an hour. She eventually come back on her own after swimming away from the boats.

We re-homed a cocker last weekend (long story but he was neglected really badly) and although he's half blind all he wants to do is sleep all day. He's only around two. Such a lazy dog but will play and run around at times.
Cocker is a great choice of dog, especially if you have small kids.

Like I said, this one we got has bad eyes so cannot see very well, he does walk into things and uses his sense of smell to sniff out cats.

I guess you had a space for another pet after the cat was 'rehomed'

Where are the fish pics though?

that madness is part of appeal I love watching them in the summer at the marine lake by mine swimming and chasing after balls etc :good:

What about a Welsh Springer? Slightly smaller & not as mad, though they still need as much exercise & grooming

The cat come back Minnnt.

If its the madness you love simon then a springer will be the dog for you.

A bit of madness is great, my Gsp's had their mad moments, & were characters.... But if you have to leave them alone for long periods, the madness might not be so much fun if you come home to a wrecked house.
Think carefully before you get one, maybe think about a kennel & run for when you have to leave it while you work, or a dog room if you have a utility room that was a safe space for it.
One of my Gsp's managed to destroy the kitchen while left for a few hours.
I learned my lesson fast!
