Joking, i'm sure your very muscly Cs
Yes Lateral, I have seen a specimen at a local display tank in one of the lfs shops near me at roughly 18". I had no idea that they grew that large until I saw the specimen myself. I very impressive sight I must say, as I understand it the fish was brought in by a fish keeper who was moving house. He had brought the fish at roughly 10" and claimed it came in with some other similar species in an import of wild fish quite a while back from Thailand.Lateral Line said:The "Tinfoil Barbs" are not. They look like a Leptobarbus species, hoevenii maybe, but the picture is not very good. Nice fish actually. Doesn't grow quite as big as a Tinfoil, but certainly wants a bigger tank then that.
Agreed, the stand does look dodgy.
*** EDIT ***
I see Ryan and I were looking t this at the same time!
Ryan: Have you ever seen a hoevenii over 400 - 450mm? I have seen some in the wild that were large, (well, in a fish market!), but they don't seem to do well in tanks. My impression is that they really need flowing, really well oxygenated water.
I would admit that the majority of fish are most probably unlikely to reach such sizes but I think it is always best to warn people of their potentail, and having seen one I fully believe it!Lateral Line said:"I see you did!"
Okay, fair enough. I'd seen really big ones for sale in food markets in the far East, but never in a tank.
