as u know i cant make up my mind what fish to get ive been thinking a betta if i find what i want im getting tha betta else im getting cories and rummy nose tetras . but was woundering about puffers and want to know all the requirements of puffers that means everything

What type of puffer do you like? What size tank do you have?

puffers are mainly a brackish and marine fish they are significant that they have a beak and so need a higher amount of calcium normally supplied in the form of crustaceans molluscs e.t.c. freshwater species include pea puffer grows to 3 cm red eye puffer grows to 6 cm and another one which i cant remember all puffers are extremely aggressive and can be kept only with other puffers if you have enough space or plecos red eyes need 10 gallons a fish and pea puffers need 3 there are other species but beware allot of them sold as freshwater are actually brackish or marine species so do your  research

As has been mentioned we need tank size (dimensions would be great too), what puffer in particular you're looking at, and if possible your ph/gh/kh

hard water if i were to get the puffers they would have to go in a 10 gal

For a 10 gallon tank, and hard water. I'd probably suggest the dwarf puffer, however it would be good to have the tank parameters, and specific readings of gh/kh and ph would be great.

By dwarf puffer he means "Carinotetraodon travancoricus", sometimes called pea puffer as well I think. These get around 1", really cute little guys.
I agree on them for your tank but think it'd be good to pick up tests for those readings, if possible. You do have a test kit for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate though, right?

Hmm, can you take a sample of tank water to your LFS and ask them to test it for you for gh, kh and ph.
 
Ask them to give you the exact reading, the more specific the better.

Puffing up is usually a defense mechanism so it's not actually something you want them to be doing.
I believe some do it occasionally though to stretch out their muscles, not sure if the DP do. Definitely worth asking your LFS if they can test for you.

I'd just ask what readings your lfs does, and ask them to get all the reading they can. Don't accept "OK" as an answer, ask the exact perimeters.
 
I recommend buying an API test kit if possible.
