Wierd question I know, but I have see a couple of different examples. 1 via clove oil in water and the other via a bag of water, fish and the freezer.

Are these painless, or does anyone know of a 'nicer' way

iv heard of the water one before but iv also heard of alcohol (vodka) with water not that iv ever done it before though

I would jst stomp on it real hard, or cut its head of with a knife real fast this is instant unlike putting the fish in the freezer which is a realy crap way to do it.

ive heard if you put a tub of water in the freezer until the top starts turning into ice, break ice then put fish into the tub it kills it instantly, dunno how true that is ive never done it before,
can i just ask why you want to know, is it just for future reference? lol

INo I know it's a horrid topic, but I wanted to get an idea of what would be the most painless as some of the ones I've heard people talking about on the forums seems a little inhumane "the clove oil" for example. I in no way am planning to kill off any of my fish, they are all doing fantastically and love them to death, but I am a newbie trying to soak up as much info as possible, even the bits of info that are horrid but sometimes necessary. -_-

The one time I've had to do it I've used a triple dose of anesthetic so that the fish just goes to sleep within about 3 minutes, and is not of this world by about 15 minutes. I wouldn't do it any other way, certainly never the freezer way. If the fish is big and you don't have the room to anesthetize I'd go with the beheading option.

I think i would go along with clove oil, people use small amounts when trimming the teeth of puffer fish. Guessing a larger dose would be quick and painless

Yeh 3 minute idea is terrible, far too slow. We dont need to go into it now though, that topic shows enough opinions for you to make your own :)

is flushing a fish a quick way?

Is there a way to punish aa fish just wundering as i seen a bulletin on goldfish being tought 2 swim though hoops an stuff.

You should never flush a live fish b/c most of the time it does not kill the fish instantly.

I had to euthanize a betta recently. I took a cup of cold tap water. Dropped some icecubes into it. Let it sit for a little bit. Enough to where some of the ice melted and the water was very cold, then I dropped the betta into it.
It took about 3-5 seconds for it to pass.
