the three spot gouramis come in many different colour varients now and are sometimes known as:

-blue gouramis
-gold gouramis
-opaline gouramis

these are all from the same speacies trichogaster trichopterus. However there are points made about the agression of this fish towards the same speacies and its tankmates, some think it's just the luck of the draw if you find yourself with a very spiteful and agressive fish, but others have kept them without any problems at all.

i once kept two three spots, and the larger fish pesterd the other fish until the day the stress became to much.

For anyone who has kept this speacies of gouramis , what has this fish's behaviour been like ?

I have 3 gourami's, all 3 spot Blue. They all have lived with each other since birth. The biggest one is huge but has never bothered the other 2. He will chase them once in a while but never do anything. The other 2 tend to bug him which is the only reason that he goes after them. But I have had them for about 3 months now and am proud to say not 1 injury has occured. So that's my experience, some may have different to say.

I have two moonlight gouramis which must be a few years old by now, they wouldnt hurt a fly - very peaceful and curious but my 2 cobalt gouramis (a.ka powder blue gouramis) have not been getting on recently. One has grown larger than the other and rules the top of the tank where the smaller one will be seen off if it comes anywhere near. This has caused the smaller one to hide away a lot and he/she's not eating as much as the other one, these were supposed to be 2 females but im really not sure about that anymore.

i have a pair of gold gourami's now but over the years i have had lots.infact in every tank i ever owned i have always had gourami's there.
The only problem i have ever had is simply the male attacking the female ,no other fish were hurt.
But the text books say that they are tempremental fish so which is right?

i'd say there more peaceful than people would have them belive

My largest female three spot is aggresive toward the male and the other female, but I have also kept a pair of gold gouramis and they never displayed any agression. Basically its your fishes personality which governs if its agressive or not.

yes i agree, some people may keep them in a very small tank , so they become territorial aggressive.
