The £6,000 goldfish

By Greig Box

THIS little goldfish is so cute he would make the perfect pet but at a price - he's worth a staggering £6,600.

The two gold and two white bubbles on his head make him unique and highly sought after by goldfish enthusiasts. The fish from a breed called Zui Xiang Hong, which means Red Lips, attracted lots of interest when he was shown at the Fish Show at Nanjing in eastern China yesterday.

A spokesman for Guangzhou Zoo said: "China is proud to be the birthplace of the goldfish. They are very popular because of their colour, grace and relaxing qualities. It is not unusual for unique fish to fetch over £6,000. This one is a very special fish and has attracted a lot of attention thanks to his amazing bubbles. We would love to have one in our zoo."
 lot of money

Interesting. I'll have to go find an unusal Goldfish for myself and make a nice little profit. Anyone seen any Zui Xiang Hong around lately!?

At least thats one Goldfish that will get some top class care. :)

EDIT: A friend of mine just heard it on the radio and I found a pic in the newspaper, not a small fish is it!

can someone get a pic. would love to see it :D

yer, same goes here!!!

have to match the picture againast my goldfish

i think we should get a pic of the owner aswell or the person that priced a goldfish for that much, must of been knocked about a bit as a baby!!

Yes, please do find us a picture. I still remember seeing an article about Goldfish, their history, breeding, and their prices in National Geographic years ago and this one breeder is holding one of his favorite goldfish in his hands and the thing was worth $15,000 US. YEEKS. I think it was a Lionhead but not sure. Criminy. But I can talk...I thought the lavender coloured guppy my daughter's boyfriend bought was a steal at $9! Had he been the size of that goldfish the price would have been probably higher. Ah our fishy friends, the spending on them never ends. :D
