*sigh*

This will probably be long winded, but I have to rant so bear with me.

First allow me to set the scene, as many know I have a lfs where I intend to sell some of my bettas in the future. We're very friendly with each other on a personal level, although I've tried my best to keep my distance. Don't mix business and friendship if ya catch my drift. I'm really good friends (outside of the shop) with this girl who used to work there, she quit a couple of months ago and that was hard for me because they had bad blood between each other, yet I had to remain neutral. The managers wife suddenly started trying to squeeze info out of me and she became really buddy buddy, almost to the point of annoying.

She would call late at night and I wouldn't answer. Hey sometimes I'm busy, who's business is it whether I'm home or not is what I say. But she would call like a million times, to the point where I started to think it was just plain funny & sad. THEN..one night after a million calls, she came over to my house nd it was really awkward but I managed to smooth it out.."Oh, I don't even know where my phone is, I hate it anyway, all it does is ring" It took me a few weeks to shake her but she didn't call once this week and I thought "Wooohoo! score!" I hate to sound coldhearted or anything but I'm not looking for friends there, I just want fish connections.

Anyway..told ya it would be long. I doubt anybody even read this far,but I will continue to ramble.

Now the store manager is another story, I adore Mr.Ly. He loves to talk bettas with me and tell me stories about when he was a kid and he would catch wild ones for the men in the village for change. He's very excited about me selling out of the shop. And he's been in love with my orange plakats forever. About 2 months ago I brought one of the babies up to him as a gift. He kept it on the register in one of those little bitty marineland bowls with the light. I hated it but out of respect for them I bit my tongue and hoped they'd do frequent water changes. Who am I to say anything about how they care for a fish?

On several occasions I would go in and find his water looking pretty dingy, or him looking really skinny and I would hiss at the little girl who works there that she better make sure his water stays clean .I would sneak him a brine shrimp or two from the bags at the counter.
The last time I saw him, all the life was completely sucked from him and he wouldn't even get up and dance when I looked at him,he looked miserable and it killed me.
But my trips to the lfs haven't been frequent this month at all. Maybe once a week.I went in today and they said he got dropsy and died  :-(

That's the first of my spawn to be sick, and the first to die and I'm just so upset and pissed.

She was sitting at the register when I walked in and smiling when she told me. I think it was the smile that pissed me off.

I walked away and got the food and when I came up to the counter I think I was fuming. She asked "are you ok?" and no...no I wasn't.

I don't even know what I said, she said "He just got dropsy" and I was like "just got dropsy Kim? just got it? Bull....!!! It's because you didn't even care for him." etc etc Then Mr Ly came up and asked if I'd heard and I spewed off some more. I'm so upset on so many levels. I honestly feel that the only ones who were sad were me and Tuesday :((and quite possibly the girl who works there, I ripped her head off too though) I know they see dead fish everyday, I understand they've grown immune to it or something. But it killed me, ugghh :-(

thats horrible! I know id feel the same way if someone was mistreating one of my guppies that i bread the parennts and raised the fry. And they dont care because they didnt have the fish when he was a fry. Its diffrent when you had the fish when they were young. That poor fish.

Awwwwwwww its okay wuv!! Lfs ppl are like that nasty lil liars I woulda cried if I were you... I would also slap whoever was in charge of the orangie! :rip:

That's aweful Kelly, and yes, I did read every word :) It's a shame they don't realize the fish they have on display are advertisements for them. If a customer comes in and sees a listless fish in dirty water at the counter (where it's easy to see and clean), what does that say for how they take care of the rest of their fish?

Linda

I am so sorry Kelly. :-( You didn't overreact one bit in my opinion......
The fact that you had given the baby as a gift makes it all the worse, not to mention that this gift was one that you gave from something that you helped create. It is so much worse than "a" fish dying on so many levels.....especially considering you had to watch the demise of your baby. Sounds to me like it was almost an intention to hurt you and that makes it suck that much worse.

I suppose in a small way, you can feel better knowing that the other babies that you had are getting the best possible care. Anyone who has your oranges, obviously loves them to no end....I don't even have any and I love them.
Try and let the pictures that Sorrell and Julie post make you feel better about the whole thing. I know it isn't the point, but you do know that those babies are happy.
At least. :/

Chris. *hugs*

I know how you feel wuv! I've been selling over 90 guppies to this one store and the manager really liked my strains and would often ask me for some every week(i was thinking wow people are buying them like crazy!). So one day i come to check up on my raised beauties and saw them (by the 10's) dead, bloated, and obviously neglected guppy bodies laying on the bottom. I hate stores that don't remove dead bodies right away, but you'd think (especially since i come there atleast 2x a week) that they would want to cover it up, but no. I didn't say anything to the manager but I haven't sold him any guppies in over 3weeks. Screw his money, I'd rather keep 80 guppies than be paid to give them certain death.

Awww sweeeetie!!! *big hugs* I am almost in tears reading this!! I don't even know how upset I would be if it were my own baby.. I almost feel like it is and it pisses me off and makes me so so sad already. *sigh* So many people just don't love their fish like we do. You'd think they could still give them the best care possible though. Anyways, I could rant all day about this, but I just want to let you know that I am feeling for you and completely understand. It shouldn't have happened, and I'm so sorry it did. :-( I will take some more pics of my babies when I get home. They are the healthiest and happiest bettas I have.

Oh, wuv, I am so sorry to hear this. :-( A tear actually came to my eye while reading it, because I know you must be feeling such horrible pain inside. :-( It must've been been so hard, having to watch your baby suffer through all that. Those orangies are so beautiful. I would love to give one or two a home, and I would be sure to give them the best care I possibly could. Just hearing that this little one had to live in such terrible conditions makes me mad as hell, to the point I want to cry.

It still amazes me how some poeple just don't care. Fish are living creatures, who deserve just as much love and care and attention as any other pet. I truely believe that our fish know that we care...you can see it when they come up to the tank to say hello, or come over to the food thats waiting in your hand.

I'm sorry to still be going on about this, but what happened to you, wuv, makes me sick. I am so sorry. :(

Much hugs and love,
Brianna

Thanks you guys :-( I'm really upset about this and I never want to go in there again at this point.
Sounds to me like it was almost an intention to hurt you and that makes it suck that much worse.
Ya know, that crossed my mind. They would tell me that people would insist on buying him almost every day. And that some customers would come back in and ask about him. I would say "oh well,I'll get some cards made or something, someday" Maybe, maybe they sold him and thought they'd just tell me he died thinking I would just shrug and say "I'll bring you another one", rather than slinging mud in their face the way I did  But that's just wishful thinking. :/

That breaks my heart.

On so many occasions I just wanted to pick him up and take him home, but then I thought I was just being over-protective :-( They had him in methylene blue for the past 3 weeks or so, I thought maybe the were just being cautious. I guess it was infact to avoid water changes

im so sorry!! no offense to the owners, but if i got a fish for a gift i would take the best care i possibly cool of it and would never let it get a speck of dirt in the water or anything! i am so sorry to hear this and i hope you feel better soon.

:-( :-( :-( :-( Omg, I am also in tears as I read that. Looking at my babies, I can't believe that someone would mis-treat their brother in any way. That is so sad. Don't think that this is your fault in any way. Hindsight bias will kill you.

I hope you can feel somewhat better knowing that my babies are so healthy and happy. I love them so much and I am so grateful that they are here

I'm sorry wuv. :-(

That is just horrible.

The only thing I can think of to make you feel better is for you to walk over to your babies and take notice of how well you take care of and spoil your fish. They're lucky to have a breeder that cares SO much for them and isn't in it for the money. :/

oh wuv i'm so sorry to hear that :-( i dont' know what to say, wish i had something comforting :( hope you feel better soon, and be happy to know that the rest of the orangies have gone to very very good homes and will live a long happy life thanks to you :)
