I got my ex1200 last week, which has replaced the ex600 and will be replacing my juwel compact/h when it is mature. I am having a bit of a problem with it though, since setting it up 4 days ago it has been getting more and more noisy, a loud electrical buzzing can be heard from about 20 feet away now and the flow rate seems to be dropping day by day...

My ex600 was always silent to around 10cm away from the unit.

I have tried cleaning the impeller casing and checked the filters inside the canister, but the noise seems to be coming from above the impeller, right inside the motor head.

Are there any owners of the ex1200 on here? If so, how much noise does your filter make?

I have emailed Tetratec explaining the problem, asking if they can send a new motor head as this one appears to be failing. I am just waiting for a reply.

i have the same and cant hear it at all, i think rabbut may have one to im sure he will be along soon to help you out or advise

try calling tetratec, you may get a faster response, i have heard they are excellent with after service tho :)

I can't hear my EX700 at all; I can't imagine the 1200 should be any different. Did you buy it online or at a shop?. If the latter, give the shop a ring.

I occasionally get that with my EX700 and it's usually down to trapped air in it. have you tried leaning it from side to side gently to see if it burps? Have you got any air diffusers near your filter inlet or anything?

I have one and it has never really been overly quiet.

At the moment it sounds like a tap running inside it.

I plan to have a good poke around with it tommorrow to try and solve it.

I called Tetra earlier this afternoon, they said they would investigate and call me back -_-

hope it goes well then, i suspect it will :) make sure they know its the only filter you have and how broke you are, and your beautiful fish may suffer, (( sympathy vote !!)

all the best

Would be interesting to have a play with your old motor head to see if it can be fixed or if it's some gunk on the impellor etc. Good on Tetratec for their customer service again :)

I opened the impellor casing and gave inside a good clean, so there definately wasn't any gunk in there. The noise it's making is a loud electrical buzzing, like an electric motor is straining.

Like said before the Tetratec 1200 is usually very quiet, I can't hear mine at all unless i pretty much stick my head in the cabinet cupboard,
