Tetratec Ex700 Refuses To Prime

Hi i'm trying to set up a Tetratec ex700 filter but i cannot get the water to flow through it no matter what I try, i've tried everything filling the canister sucking the tube etc, any ideas
 
Been working at it for hours with no luck at all, please help

If you are still having difficulties try shaking the canister backwards and forwards to try and help it prime, you may have to do this quite violently to get it going but it should work after a while of shaking/rocking.  
 
It takes patience but the water will reach the tank eventually

I got the filter working but had to disconnect it as there is some kind of hole in one of the valves which is leaking a fair amount of water so would be unsafe to use
