Well after having a proper falling out with my Interpet EPF I've replaced it with a Tetrec EX600

It's smaller, and soooo much quieter ^_^

Only thing that confuses me is that there were two types of cermic hoops - a bag of smooth ones, and another bag full of sintered, lightweight hoops. Why ?

There's only one tray (that I can see) that it would be practical to keep them in as the others have the filter foams and carbon in them.

Just down to personal preference ?? ....or did someone in the stocking dept just get giddy

You should have half a tray of Smooth Ceramics, then a Foarse Foam in the bottom basket, I'd then move to top basket down, so you have Foam - Carbon - Floss in tray two, then finally a full tray of Bio-Balls in the top tray with the default media. I'm guessing you've got bio-ceramics (the ones with the pitted surface) instead of the Bio-balls though, so insert them with the Bio-balls were. If you have them as well as the Bio-balls, take your pick between the two. I fine BB's easier to clean than Ceramic though

Yeah seemed to get both (bio-balls & what look like bio-ceramic hoops)

I've stuck the (bio-ceramic?) hoops from the Interpet in the lower tray as I think they had a reasonably well established culture of bacteria, then foam on top, bio-balls in the middle tray, and IIRC carbon and floss pads in the top

My only worry with putting the floss before the bio-balls would be the lack of waste getting through to the bacteria... though perhaps unfounded and not something to worry about

Thanks

Actually, it's best NOT to allow dirt onto your bio-media, as it cloggs the pores of the bio-media quicker, reducing it's efficiency.

All the best
