Fish Crazy
bump
New filters, even with old media often need a couple of water changes every other day to kick start them. The flow of water over the bacteria alters and the bacteria need to recolonise certain areas for optimal perfomance. Shouldnt take more than a week to settle. Assuming your old mature media was well established and it wasnt left to dry out during its transfer to the new filter.
Lol thanks for that?I totally made that up, but it sounded good didnt it.

You made a great choice.
How's the ammonia?? Its unlikely that the ex1200 had anything to do with the rise in ammonia.
More than likely something unbalanced the bulk of the bacteria, during your media transfer. So your technique of tranfering media needs polishing . None of your readings shud alter when you do a full transfer. In theory & practice, its the same cycled media, for the same amount of fish?! And your level of 0.25 suggest it won't be long before its 0 again - monitor & daily water changes - u know the drill.
It is noisy, unless u get the spray bar just underneath the water table - its great for surface agitation.
You don't want a filter, where the outflow is pitiful&quiet, cos that suggests the flow rate and filtration is under par.
Really Impressed so far the filter is whisper quiet and the hydor eth 300 is an ammazing piece of kit to.Glad you've got it sorted mate. What do you think to it so far?
Cool mate. The Hydor good then? I was considering one for my tank as my internal is a little crazy sometimes.
May have to invest in one then. What size is the pipework for the 1200?
