Tetratec Ex 1200

Right, it has arrived!

It was pretty simple to setup, but i have a few questions.

Do you have to use the spraybar? As i removed the spraybar and i let the water flow freely through the 90 degree pipe. I have also removed the carbon from the first basket, as it was very black. And i didn't know how to place it correctly. Will this effect the filter? As the first basket is only half full of media...

Cheers, Adam. ;)

Yeh, its fine not have the spraybar or carbon, however it might be a good idea to replace it with some other media.

I took the carbon out of mine straight away; I just put an extra black bio sponge in its place. Worth keeping the carbon, though, just in case you need to take anything out of the water later on.

Right, cheers guys. Ill soon replace it, with some other media!

Hi guys I have a couple of questions if anyone could be so kind as to answer.

I have a Juwel rio 300 and a Juwel vision 260 both with the Juwel internal filters. I was thinking of replacing them both with the Ex1200 external.

What I was wondering is will I have to modify the juwel flaps to accommodate the pipes from these filters?

Is it possible to use some of the sponges from my internal filters inside the terratec as I obviously have a heathy bacteria culture within the existing sponges otherwise would I have to run both sets of filters for a few weeks until the bacteria has established itself in the ex 1200.

thanks for any help
Darren

Is it possible to run one of these filters in a tank that doesn't have any pre drilled holes?? or would this be a problem??

I've got it on a rio 240 - the pipes fit in the pre-made gaps at the back...

Our Trigon 350 has to have the rear flap lifted up a bit to fit it.

you can do either - you'll be able to get the sponges in the filter - or run them side by side for a while...

Thanks smithrc I will order one for my rio 300 and if I get on okay I will get another one for the vision.
I will just place the juwel sponges in the ex 1200 I have loads of the white filters as well so will just make them all fit as best I can saves throwing them away

cheers
Darren

Bought this filter off the Living Seas website last week.

It arrived within 24 hours and I got it set up on my Rio 300 really easily. The back light flap is lifted up a fraction to accomodate the inlet and outlet pipes.

I'm a big fan of the spraybar which kicks out quite a current along the length of my tank. Dead easy to adjust the flow for feeding etc. and also very easy to prime and disconnect the pipes to remove the filter box for cleaning.

Can't recommend the product or the supplier enough.

got mine today unfortunately my tank is vey close to the wall so the pipes wont fit. Will have to take out a load of water and shuffle it forward a few millimetres. Looks a really nice bit of kit and I got it from the same supplier.

Scouse are you running it with your juwel filter or did you just transfer the sponges?

I'm just running the 1200 on its own in the 240... I ran them side by side for a few weeks then removed the juwel unit (I'd un stuck it before I setup the tank)

In the trigon 350 - I'm running both units together - I really want to remove the juwel unit but its heavily stocked - I could add a 304 aswell but that would mean noise - and getting very wet trying to remove the fitted unit from a running tank :D... oh and our clown loaches would stop talking to me as they hide under it :D

Well mine is now fitted and up and running after having containers of water everywhere to get it to a weight where I could shuffle it forward enough to make the pipes fit behind the tank.

I have left the carbon out and fitted one of my juwel sponges inside the 1200 to start off the bacteria. I intend to run both for a couple of weeks then remove a juwel sponge once a week fro the internal unit until they are all gone. Hopefully this will mean I will not be removing too much bacteria in one go.

thanks for all that helped :good:

I've been running the EX1200 and internal Juwel together, I had a load of cycled media from a previous external filter which I put into the EX1200 to start it off too.

Next weekend I'll be putting the rest of the proper EX1200 media in (not the carbon though). I will keep running the Juwel internal alongside the Tetratec as it is well siliconed in and seeing as it is there I might as well use it, I am fairly heavily stocked and have quite a few plecs so the more filtration the better really.

Thinking well ahead to my next tank I will be looking to get a bigger tank (500 litres ish) and run two EX1200s with Hydor inline heaters attached to the filter pipes outside the tank, that way I'll have a tank completely free from ugly equipment :hyper: Anyone have any experience with the Hydor ETH heaters? I think they're pretty new. Just found this link but I'm pretty sure I've seen them below the 30 quid mark already. http://www.fishandfins.co.uk/hydor-theo-aquarium-heater.htm

Just ordered one today from Living Seas website, cant wait to get it tbh

Its going to go in my Trigon 190

(ordered last Wednesday lunchtime and it arrived today - Monday lunchtime) Very pleased with filter, i can see the difference in an hour!, very quiet and very easy to setup / prime)

Regards
