Tetras disappearing, please help!!

Aquadur minerals for the GH

I missed this additive earlier, sorry. Don't use this. I've not seen it and need to look it up, but adjusting GH is not this simple, depending. The first thing is to ascertain the GH, KH and pH of your source (tap) water on its own. If you don't already know, you should be able to get this data from your water supplier, check their website. GH is crucial to fish, and once we know the source water parameters we will know which fish will be easier and which will be difficult or impossible.

I want to do right by my fish so as soon as the fish store allows me to, I will try and rehome them. Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a tank & I'm not sure if people would want to take them. The majority of my fish were bought as very small babies & have grown up together. I appreciate that they can change as they grow but for now I will do what I can.

Thought I should add that I only noticed them going missing when I bought the shark? Could the shark be eating them? The knife fish has been very tolerant with them and I didn't have any disappearances when I bought him.

Yes, the shark is one possible culprit. This is not a community fish, so I would get rid of it as it is going to be trouble even if not responsible now.

Dont feel too bad about it. Pet stores gave a good chunk of us on here similar advice and we learned the hard way

All the advice given to you by the members here is good sound advice. We all make mistakes early in our fishkeeping hobby. Live and learn...do not listen to that fish store employees. He has given very bad advice.

I once temporarily put 6 neons in with my large Angelfish and he immediately ate one of the neons. I quickly removed the Angelfish into a bucket of water while I removed the neons and added them to another tank that I had. Then I put the angelfish back into the tank. Luckily I saved the lives of 5 neon tetras by acting quickly.
