Hi

I was thinking of getting a small shoal of tetra for my tank, as apparently they're good for dispursing aggression and look pretty too. I was wondering though, with my angels, aren't neon tetra an angel's diet in the wild?

I was wondering if there are any tetra I could get that are beautiful, wont nip fins, and wont get eaten by the angels?

Thanks

I've got loads of different tetras in my tank with my angels, and none have been scoffed (yet) ;)

Columbians are nice and peaceful (and lovely colours), glowlights are peaceful too, as are my penguins. I love emperor tetras for looks, and up until recently mine were peaceful, but the big male emperor killed one of his females and attacked another male last week, so I wouldn't recommend them any more.

I think the columbians are my fave, and if you're worried about tetras getting eaten, they're a good size too - no chance an angel could eat one :good:

congo's are my favourite tetra but they're definately one of the biggest if they aren't the biggest so not suitable for every tank (well if you wanted them in a little tank you'd have room for nothing else  )

I have heard different things said about this.

In the wild tetras such as neons are supposed to be part of their natural diet. But considerations are:

How big were the neons when mixed with the angels.
How big were the angels when mixed with the neons.
Which were added first (teritory thing).
Have they both grown with both being around and not considered them food.

If you are at all worried but you like neons, then perhaps go for a slightly larger one such as a cardinal tetra. i think they are great, and really help to show off a tank, especially one with plants..

Red eye tetras, black widow tetras are both guaranteed to be safe :good: .
And if you want something bigger, Buenos Aires Tetra are very nice too .

I have a shoal of glowlight tetras with my angelfish. No fin nipping or anything. The only thing that goes on is that during feeding the angelfish try guarding the food by chasing the glowlights around to keep them from getting to the food. They never succeed so i really don't know why they waste their energy. :shifty:
