Down a dark hole... Down a dark hole... with an ow
Hi there,

I have been encoutering High nitrates in my water since i first setup my tank. My tap water has very high nitrates (30ppm), that with my tank bring it up to 50ppm beforew a water change.

My water conditioner reduces the level in my tap water to 15ppm, but my tank still has annoyingly (yet not too dangerous) high nitrates.

I have tried Nitrasafe in a spare filter to no effective result.....

I was at my lfs and decided to pick up what looked like a pretty good product - TetraAqua NitrateMinus....
Take a look here......

It sits underneath the gravel for 12months, until it naturally breaks down and you re-seed!..... apparently absorbing nitrates...

Any ideas, comments, experiences on this product much appreciated, as i have never heard of ppl using this product.

Thanks

My nitrates were high, i then added 4 live plants and within a day they had dropped to zero, i've heard chemicals are a last result, but alot of people on here get high tap water nitrates like yourself, so i guess you'd need something like this

Best of luck anyhow, and keep us posted with how well it works

Hi,

Thanks for the post....

Yea, thats what i thought, although im concentrating on my ill Gouramis at the mo, so live plants will have to wait for now, although i WILL be getting around to planting some one day..... (i have plastic)

Back to the product -
It doesnt appear to be a chemical, i quote:
"...granules that remove nitrate in a natural, biological process..."

Hopefully thats the case! :p

Any other thoughts/experiences?
