maybe i should wait until i put water in, but for being called whisper it's really loud...

Internal filters can be loud until they have water running through them. The air running through them makes noise - as such they may be noisy for the first few minutes they're on in a tank, until the air gets through and it's just water running through the filter.

I had a Whisper internal filter for my five gallon tank and it was very quiet. Try putting it in the tank and running it for a few minutes, then see if it's still noisy.

Noise was certainly a concern of mine when i was buying a tank and filter as it would be in the room i sleep in. I do not have your particular filter however i can say from experience with my own that is is quite noisy when the water level is low or when it is out of water. However once it is in water and has the water flowing through it is very quiet and does not disturb me at all.

I have same problem accept its with vibration, the vibration is really loud at night, and if you put your hand against the glass you can feel the vibration lol.

I dont have same filter though, sorry i wasnt any help lol.

Filters are not designed to be run dry, and it can damage them to do so. Most filters should be quiet; I consider splashing to be different, and mostly a matter of water level. If a filter is making noise, try taking apart the pump (powerhead) and cleaning the impeller. Biofilm build up, gravel, sand, ect can get into the impeller chamber and cause noise. This also can damage the impeller, making it spin off-center.

yea, i guess i should just wait until the tank is filled up
the only reason i plugged it in in the first place was to see if it worked at all
thanks for the help
