hi all, how long is the average lifespan of a tetra?

mick.

A quick google says 5-6 years, could be very wrong though.

Larger Tetras live longer... i think.

Some of the tetras i have have been with me for 5 years now, but they are the odd few not the average life span. In my experiance somthing like 1 in 5 are still around that were with me in 2005. They include Rummys, cardinals, Glowlights and Congos. I think the average for the smaller at least is closer to 2-3 years. others may have different experiances.

My mate has a planted tank with a large school of neons, he says about 20% are the originals from 2003 when he set it up, the rest range from 1 to 6. My oldest fish was a tank kept goldie who was 16 won him from a fair when i was young, most people were surprising he reached more than 2 weeks
