I just want to comment about fishless cycling. I can say with confidence that about 99% of fish that are used to cycle a tank will die within 12 months. usually the deaths are months after cycling is done, thus many aquarists fail to see the connection. I am not trying to give you a hard time; I did exactly the same thing with my first tank(29g). I have one white cloud left from my original 9 fish and I did daily 20% changes...I just want to promote fishless cycling , especially for any first tank, started with a new filter (I start new tanks now with 50-70 day mature filters to avoid cycling.im kind of a newbie when it comes to aquariums...ive only had my aquarium for around nine months now...unfortunately a fish ive had as long as ive had my aquarium passed on today ...
however looking into the future im planning on getting a small shoal of neon tetras...the problem is that my aquarium is a mix of a bunch of fish. the one im most worried about is a ruby shark that is about three inches long...it has the tendency of being a bit aggressive....can i keep the ruby shark and introduce a few tetras? do neon tetras have any other 'enemies'? what extra care would i need for neon tetras?
Why is mature filter media not sold at stores?
