I don't know about you, but I have never found a decent online aquarium volume calculator (I know about the pinned ones above)...So I decided to write my own for my first stab at JavaScript programming.

It would be great if you could check it out for me and let me know what you think.

I'm interested in any constructive comments, suggestions, errors you find, etc.
I've made it do a range of tank shapes so I'm especially interested if you have some of the non-rectangular tanks and their measurements so you can check the calculations.

Thanks a lot !

Cool, may replace the calc in my sig with that if its ok with you?

Accurate apart from the 0 values I got, see below...

Surface area: 768sq.inches
Tank volume: 226.58litres 59.82usg 49.85ukg
Water volume: 0litres 0usg 0ukg

Jon

thanks for testing Jon...what inputs did you give for that output?

no probs with using the link :)

48 length, 16 width and 18 high. 17 fill depth and 1" substrate. No prob, if you want to host it away from geocities, drop me a pm and I'll sort it for ya.

Jon

ah, I see...I was wondering if that would cause confusion. It's because the 'fill level' is measured from the top of the glass to the top of the water, not the bottom to the top. Maybe I should rename?

You had an 18" height, with 17" fill level (meaning you fill to one inch) and 1" substrate = no water :)

I shall have to give it some more thought to make it clearer.

LOL, ok retried and get...

Surface area: 768sq.inches
Tank volume: 226.58litres 59.82usg 49.85ukg
Water volume: 201.4litres 53.17usg 44.31ukg

Much better, how about "fill level from the top"?

Jon

p.s. any chance of getting the JavaScript source code?

how about "fill level from the top"?

that sounds sensible!

I will sort the code out for you.. There is over 30 files so I will try and zip it up tomorrow. It might not be pretty though - being my first attempt at it!

Also, I know the pics are crap! I need to spend more time drawing decent pics.

urm i can't type in it!! apart from the conversion boxes.

I'm useing firefox if that makes a difference!!

ok, thanks for pointing that out, Just tested in FireFox myself and there seems to be some sort of compatibility issue. There is a function which masks any non-numeric input the user tries to input and with FireFox it is masking all input! I shall try looking at a fix.

edit...and I forgot to apply the masking function to the conversion box, so that's why they work :D

Hey, seems to work pretty good!

One suggestion, it's a little clumsy to navigate... I didn't really know what was going on at first! :p

Maybe a bit of a redesign?

Apart from that, good work

That was the other i forgot to make!! everythings spaced out so much but i guess it's just a rough copy....

Hi,

despite working on a PC everyday I am totally computer illiterate!!

how do you guys get pictures in your sig?

how do you get links in your sig (and rename them as well so as not to just show the http address??)

thanks in advance for any help.
