i was wondering if anyone knew of a easier way of testing water peramiters than the water test tubes with drops. My wife will be looking after my fish tank and she cant seem to get the dropper thing right. Ive heard of the strips and also heard of digital testers, is there such a thing and by chance do they actually work. thanks

Hi,

I think there was something about digital testers in the DIY section of the forum earlier this week/last week.

How long are you going to be away for - if it's not too long (week or so), I'd say get her some of the strips.

Failing that, practice makes perfect with the droppers :)

Unfortunately, for the cheap price & practicality, there's nowt better than those dropper kits!

im going to be gone for about three months with work so i am hoping everything goes well, I do believe my wife can handle the drops but shes afraid of messin it up. I did see a ph digital pen didnt know how they work but might give it a shot. i also seen a tds (Total Dissolved Solids Tester) but didnt know what it would be used to check for thanks again

There are also test strips, these combine multiple tests into a single strip that you simply dip into the tank.

There are some cons:
They are a bit more expansive
They are a bit less accurate
The strips I've seen do not include ammonia (but ammonia is available as a separate strip)

Still, this is something to consider... (I use them occasionally when I am short on time and simply want to confirm that the params did not change).
