hey guys i have a terra cotta pot unglazed and wondering would it be safe for the aquarium?, but 1 one problem i dont know if it was used in the garden previously. (forgot)
I think it should be fine if you boil it. I may be wrong and hopefully someone will clarfiy. But I have seen plenty of people using terracotta in their tanks
I believe that such could only be possible if it was of poor quality, with several air bubbles throughout it's composition. Generally, my worry would be to get all the stickers that they put on the pots off of them. Typically this isn't a huge issue...
I know that my boyfriend's convicts adore terracotta pots, and I'm gonna have to reserve one to see if my fish will be fans, mutually.
I'd imagine that java moss would be great if you could tie it to the pot with some fishing line, and be careful with terra cotta pots as I don't know how many times I've heard of fish getting stuck in those and severely injuring themselves or Dieing.
As FF2 says, fish can get stuck in the hole in the bottom of the pot. Fix something over the hole with silicone, that'll solve the problem. I used a bit of plastic canvas on the pot in my betta's tank.
My pot has java fern attached to it. I used fine nylon thread to tie it on, then removed the thread once the fern had attached itself.
