been advised on anther thread to get a powerhead for my new juwel rio 180.

when i went to the shop today to get one, i could only find airpumps! are these the same thing? The guy in the LFS said they are not, but he said i wouldn't need one for this tank.

The confusion might have occured due to language barrier (German/English)

Powerheads and airpumps are differnt.

These are powerheads
These are air pumps

The main differnece is the fluid they move, a powerhead moves liquids while an air pump moves gasses

As it happens I have one of those from a Bioflow 8 (infact the whole Bioflow 8) I will be looking to get rid of soon.

just checked everything that came in my tank. I have a bioflow 600 pump already in there.

Oh right, is the powerhead you require purely for circulation water and not for filtration? If so I'd go for a Hydor Koralia.
