my aquarium is made up of 5inch tempered glass. my substrate is rough mixture of quartz and natural stones, i heard from someone that rough gravel scratched the glass surface and make it weak leading to glass breakage.

is it true, if yes do i have to change the substrate.

Hi sivabiot :)

I'm going to move your thread over to the Hardware and DIY section. You'll probably get the most accurate information there. :D

5" sounds implausably thick for glass. I don't think any scratches made by gravel will weaken the glass, especially if it was sold as an aquarium.

Someone with more practical knowledge hopefully will chip in, I think theres a few people on this forum who work with glass so should be able to give a better answer.

Do you mean 5mm Tough glass
Toughened/tempered glass is what it is. Quite tough.
Scratches will not usually harm a small tank as this is a given and mfgs will have accounted for wear and tear when making those tanks.
The weakest point in a toughened piece of glass is the edges and corners especially, you do not want to bang these hard.
