The temperature in my tank is 27c, it is usually 24-26c. I presume the rise in temp is because of the hot weather. Is anybody else having this problem?

I do sometimes. I just turn the heater off for a bit.

same issue for me today. Bottle of frozen water in the tank works for me

Also. I left my tank sliders off and added a fan to my fish room.
Temp of tanks get to 25 today, yesterday was 27.

I have unplugged my heater because the temperature in my tank is 28c. Can I leave my heater unplugged all night?

Unplugging your heater makes no difference. If you heater is set at, say 24°C, and your water is 28°C, then it just means your heater won't come on until the water gets to 24°C or below; it won't switch on if the water is at 28°C.

The ambient temperature is likely to drop fast at night, so you definitely shouldn't leave your heater switched off, or your fish might get too cold.

Don't forget that these are tropical fish we're talking about; they can easily tolerate higher temperatures for short periods of time. Just make sure you have enough water movement, as hot water holds less oxygen than cold.

I have an air pump going all the time. I will plug heater back in then.

I have had similar problems all day, I use freezer blocks like the ones you put in cool boxes, once they are frozen I attach them on the outside case of external filter using elastic, cools filter case thus gradually cooling water, don't want to cool it to quickly.

Yep mine are around 28 too, aslong as they dont get any hotter than that you will be fine :-D I was too busy watching the tennis and forgot to check my tanks ;-)
GO MURRAY!!

who would have thought we would be having overheating trouble in UK, heaters will probably be running flat out again next week

Same for me although mine peaked at 32 !!  QQ  ice blocks lowered it by 1 degree, now have a freezer draw full of water bottles ready lol .. ( tank water inside the bottle )

I have also broken up my weekly water change to a few more smaller ones,   not heating the water which helps to drop it by a extra 2 degrees, fish no longer swimming about with portable fans ;)

Well over the past few weeks I found that leaving my window open, tank lids off, and running a fan in the room during the day has kept my tanks at about 24. Usually at 23 so not too bad
