Hi

I came home from work today, I noticed the temp on my 3 gallon Eclipse tank was 86F and its real hot here in Texas, high of 100F - 109F for a week straight now.
I was just wondering if I need to add something to keep the water cool in the summer, im not sure what it would be? Or if a water temp rise of 6 degrees is ok during the day?

The tank always stays around 80F, now summer is here and during the day it rises to 86F. Its about 15 feet away from any window and is under shade.

Thanks!

well 3g is a small water volume so therefore, the temp can swing pretty rapidly. The best thing to do if possible is to keep the tank in a cool shaded room during the day to reduce the amount of heat added to the water. If ur still seeing large temp increases, try placing a fan so that it blows across the top of the tank. This will help cause evaporation which will draw away heat. But, remember to watch the water level, you can top up with dechlorinated tap water to keep the water level pretty constant

there are some things you can do:
freeze a small bottle of water (be sure to clean and remove labels) and put it in the tank for a bit, this is temporary though
lower the tank (basement is best, but if not anywhere low to the ground is better, hot air rises so colder air is lower)
fans also will work
shade
limit lighting as this can raise the temp also

edit:
just read that lowing the tank will only help if its 2ft or 30 L,
