Tds Meter, Whats The Level Your Ro Unit Should Be Reading?

Hi

I have an TDS meter on the way to test my RO water, I guess 0 level is the target reading but is this something only the best most expensive of RO units can acheive?

Is there a level which is ok or has this to be 0 if your to avoid any unwanted blooms of green, red, brown or anyother colors due to bad RO water.

^^As ben says, TDS wants to be as close to zero as possible. Anything upto 1/100 of the source waters TDS is acceptable...

Yup, the RO membrane should remove 95-99% of the input TDS (depending on the membrane). Beyond that and it should be flushed to try and clean it and if flushing fails, the membrane needs replacing.
 
Well, good job I got one of these meters!

Tap water 260 ppm
My RO water 290 ppm!

Erm, something not right here.

Two out pipes, and it turns out I have been throwing the good (2 ppm), and keeping the waist (290 ppm) for my tank!

I have done 5 x 22ltr changes since getting the tank with established mature water, so it looks like I have caught this just in time.

Water test at the local shop last week indicated all good, bar slightly high salinity and a little phosphate. My stock seems all ok bar my plate coral who has been in the huff for two days now but seems to be coming round after moving it out the way of a peppermint shrimp that wants to eat it.! My Regal Tang has white spot (as per norm from time to time) however my Royal Grammar has white spot also, as of this morning. I am planing a 44 ltr water change tomorrow, with my 2 ppm RO water.! :)

IMO; Eventualy you should get your own test kits. Get the liquid not the test strips. I would want PH, Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate as a minimum. Also somthing to measure salinity. Don T.
