Tds Meter For Ro System

Sorry to post late but only joined today –

Im a bit of an RO / DI freek! I have 50gal 4 pod (inc DI) ROMan unit portable TDS meter (pen style)

I prefer the pen as its portable !!

Once set to TDS zeroed in its fine – in-line do same and are easier just not portable. I would say £20 - £25 will get something safe and nice (good)

Water rations,, PH take a tubble so might need to re-mineralise with safe stuff, you see if that’s the case and in marine world buffers are used as the salt covers most requirements

If you have shrimps then they need some bad stuff RO/Di will not carry that so you might need to add it again see how you go – if you gas off tap and aqua safe it as recommended them i would suggest 33 / 50% max RO/DI tap

If you not DI then your never get TDS zero and so more RO vs Tap will be fine

In marines it must be ZERO TDS i go under 10 or your be replacing everything weekly as TDS creep up with use

Let me know anything else, be happy to help. Been using ROs for years

Thanks for the input JM. Since I do not do saltwater at all, I find that an RO is clean enough for top off water and the RO allows me to reduce mineral content of tap water without much trouble. As long as I don't just do top off water additions, I don't get a significant build using straight RO at near 1 degree of hardness. Most freshwater fish are fairly flexible so as long as I do an occasional water change with tap water the slight mineral build from the small TDS in RO water used for a top off is never a factor in my tanks. I keep mostly high mineral loving livebearers so water quality is seldom a problem for me with my high TDS water. I am a bit surprised to hear that saltwater fish require even purer water than my livebearers do. It would seem to me that water with a s.g. of around 1.020 would be very high in minerals and not be very sensitive to the low TDS levels I see from my RO but, as I said, I am no saltwater expert by any means.
