Thanks Benzoar, keeping on the subject of water softness.

I live in a hard water area, but I want to keep fish that like (and some that really need) softer water. Is it simple to sofern water ??

a basic answer is no, it is not simple

you need to add chemicals and closely monitor the water you add to your tank to avoid ph and hardness swings


you could also use R/O water with buffers but that will be almost as complicated...

How critical is hardness to fish ? Is hardness directly linked to PH ?
