Tap Water Conditioner

I use nutrafin aqua plus. Works perfectly well in my tanks. Always add to the water in the bucket. Would rather build my muscles carrying buckets than risk harming the fish using a hose and adding the conditioner b4 or after. And it does take time with the bigger tanks. Especially my 6ft tank. It's so high up I have to stand on a chair to get the water in. Oh what fun.

Hey all ...

+1 for seachem ... but it's highly pricey where I am and not very common ... I have found a decent brand though that is cheap and I have never had a problem ...

Danios Anti-Chlorine ... I wouldnt say it's a very concentrated formula ... 10ml treats 60L(15g) of water.

Depends on the tank size but I prefer to treat in a bucket 1st then put the water into my tank ... takes 5min maybe 10 ... bigger tanks I treat in the tank ...

Anyone else use or hear about this brand ??

Regards,
Richard.

Just missed out on a 500ml bottle of Seachem Prime, on eBay, for £2.00! That'll teach me to wake up earlier. Out of context, do any of you know the recommended length of time to leave a tank running before starting a fish-less cycle? I ask this because my tank has been running, and filtering, since Sunday of last week. It is now Thursday and I go away tomorrow until Sunday. This means the tank will have been sat pushing water for a week. Is this safe?

Cheers,

Luke.

if your going away until sunday just wait until then to start :)

you can start a fishless cycle whenever you want leaving the filter running wont do much without ammonia just move the water around the tank

Thanks Ash. My main concern is the water going stagnant over time but as you say, with no ammonia in there, it must take more than a week for this to happen.

Cheers,

Luke.

Hey hey ...

Water can only go stagnant if there is no water current ... make sure the filter is causing a current and u have good surface water movement ... maybe while u gone angle the filter outlet so taht it breaks the surface of the water ...

All should be fine especially seems u want 2 fishless cycle.

When i started my 3ft tank i left it for 4 weeks just with the filter running. Had all my plants in there ofcourse, but 4 weeks and it wasnt a problem. I'm a big fan of the "leave it a month" theory when cycling a tank. I leave nothing to chance.
