Tanks

I'm sorry, raeburter, we got on a side talk and stole your thread. I'm not familiar with guppy keeping. Are they heated? Betta are very tolerant, but I understand they perfer warm water.

As was said earlier the betta may be excited and cofused by the guppy's flashy fins. Probably they will adapt to the guppy water. Is the guppy water brackish?

It may not be ideal, raeburter, but as long as you acclimate the betta first and watch to see that they are adapting ok, if it is something you want to try, or need to do, try it.

Watch the betta behavior, keep an eye on the water conditions, divide the two bettas and the guppies and try it. Like I said it's probably not ideal but it might work for now.

How's that for equivication?

I'm sorry raeburter I am way out of my depth. I'm not sure what either of your questions refered to or meant. I am on break and have to go back to work.

You could go to the top of the forum thread, clip on wuvmybetta's name and pm her with your exact question.

I gotta go to work.

If you keep bettas and guppies together, be prepared for dead guppies. Most bettas see the flowy colorful fins and think they are another betta and will nip their fins and attack them just like they would another betta. This doesn't happen ALL the time, but it does happen a majority of the time, and if it were my fish, I wouldn't want to take the risk. :/

raeburter, I'm sorry. We are having some miscommunication. I believe I understand what you are asking, but I'm not dead sure that I know positively what the answer is.

I hear you asking if the guppies and the bettas can live in the same water conditions? Is that what you want to know?

My answer is:
Unless YOU are doing something to the water to make it different from the betta's water, They are the same.

There are some problems with some language differences that is making it hard for both of us.

Betta water just has to be clean and declorinated. The temp can be between 74 to 82 degrees Faranheit. They like soft water I believe. This can be achieved with peat or drift/bog wood. But it is not essential.

I am trying to give you the information you may be asking for, as all those who have answered you were.

I suggest again that you contact the forum moderator, wuvmybetta.

This is not the guppy forum. I don't know what kind of water guppies need.

Thanks jollysue. :)

rae - Yes, the pH, temp, hardness etc. is practically the same for gups and bettas. Although behaviour-wise they are usually incompatible. But by 'betta trap' I think you mean they'll be seperated so no harm done.

Do you have a pic of Tusa?

A 1 usg will require frequent water changes. :)
